Interventions

Many students who are below grade level or have gaps in their reading skills can benefit from quality and consistent interventions. They may need long term or short term remediation to correct deficiencies in phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, comprehension, etc.

Student needs will vary depending on the severity of their deficiencies.

You will need to consider if they need:

  • 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days a week of interventions?
  • Computer-based or Teacher/tutor lead interventions?
  • 10, 20, 30 min. a day (individual or small group intervention)?
  • Before, During, or After school interventions?
  • What program or materials will be utilized?

Where to Go to Find Quality Materials for Interventions:

Progress Monitoring is a Must.... to judge if the interventions are successful or if they need to be altered.

PM is recorded data, notes, scores, etc. that show if progress is being made by a student.
PM can be recorded daily, weekly, monthly, etc.
PM can be kept is a simple notebook, computer, copied forms from a program, etc.
